Here is the conclusion to our three-part blog When Driver Negligence Causes Car Accidents: What You Need to Know.
Driver Negligence: Failing to Follow Traffic Laws
In some cases, motorists may choose to intentionally violate traffic laws, and this can cause traffic accidents. Examples of this type of driver negligence include (but are not exclusive to):
- Running red lights and blowing through stop signs
- Not yielding the right-of-way to other drivers or pedestrians
- Speeding or driving dangerously slow
- Cutting off or tailgating other drivers
- Not using indicators when turning or changing lanes
- Driving the wrong way down one-way streets
- Making illegal U-turns.
While some motorists may commit such traffic violations because they are in a hurry, other times they may fail to comply with the law because they don’t think anyone is around, they want to impress the passengers in their vehicle and/or they are somehow impaired and don’t even realize they are violating traffic laws.
Regardless of why drivers may have violated traffic laws, the fact remains that these negligent drivers will likely be held responsible for compensating accident victims after car accidents.
When Driver Negligence Is More Likely to Occur
Some of the factors that may increase the likelihood of drivers being negligent and reckless when they are behind the wheel include (but aren’t limited to):
- Driver inexperience
- Driver intoxication
- Traffic, which can put drivers on edge and may even incite them to violate traffic laws.
